| The year 2003 marked the 300th
anniversary of the founding of the Daughters of
Wisdom in France by St. Louis de Montfort and Blessed Marie
Louise Trichet. There were a number of special events scheduled at
Wisdom House to celebrate this important anniversary.
Bells mark time. In doing so, they arouse energy as well as bring
silence. In monastic communities, the bell marks time during the
day, calling monks and nuns to prayer, work, meals, rest and awakening.
The Founders' Bell
at Wisdom House marks the 300th anniversary of the founding
of the Daughters of Wisdom. The bell is a gift of Marie and
Kenneth Ford. It was first sounded at Wisdom House on February
1, 2003 on the eve of the 300th anniversary. All who gathered
for the ceremony rang the bell while chanting the haiku, "Sounding
bell; Breaking silence; Bringing silence". |
|
The bell rests in
the enlarged Peace Garden. Here, along with the Wisdom Sculpture
and the Peace Pole, it may be used by guests of Wisdom House
for ceremonies and reflection. |
