Art Gallery Opening & Reception: Russell Miyaki

  • Wisdom House Retreat & Conference Center 229 East Litchfield Road Litchfield, CT, 06759 United States (map)

Join us for an inspiring evening celebrating the work of Russell Miyaki, a contemporary artist and creative director based in New York City, with a studio at Metro Art Studios in Bridgeport, CT, a beautifully renovated 1800s corset factory turned creative hub. Light refreshments will be served as guests enjoy an intimate introduction to Russell’s vibrant and joy-infused collection.

A third-generation Japanese American born and raised in New Mexico, Russell studied advertising design and illustration in Colorado, graduating with honors before launching a celebrated career in design and advertising. His work has earned recognition from prestigious institutions including The One Club for Creativity (One Show Interactive) and the The Webby Awards. Yet his most defining moment came when he took a creative leap of faith, founding his own greeting card studio and hand-painting every piece using his signature “marker painting” technique on metallic paper. These vibrant, swirling works built a national following long before social media and became a distinctive presence in boutique gift and gallery stores across the country.

Today, Russell works in oils, pigment sticks, and acrylics on canvas, wallboard, and layered plexiglass. Inspired by artists such as Peter Max, Juan Gris, Lee Krasner, August Macke, Franz Marc, Willem de Kooning, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, his work bridges the introspective and the universal.

In recent years, Russell has shifted his artistic focus. Rather than painting the world as it made him feel, he began painting how he wanted to feel, channeling positivity, unity, and healing into bold visual affirmations. Echoing the words of P. T. Barnum, “The noblest art is that of making others happy,” Russell’s work invites viewers into a world imbued with hope, happiness, and fun, an intentional counterpoint to division and negativity.

This gallery opening offers more than an exhibition. It’s an invitation to step into joy.

Admission is free. Registration is requested so we can prepare to welcome you.

We hope you’ll join us for an evening of art, connection, and celebration.
