Art Gallery Opening & Reception: Steve Parlato

  • Wisdom House Retreat & Conference Center 229 East Litchfield Road Litchfield, CT, 06759 United States (map)

Each piece has a name. Each name has a story. And every story matters.

Join us for an unforgettable evening as we welcome Middlebury artist, author, and poet Steven Parlato for the opening of his powerful collage series, They Are Not Disposable. This moving collection is more than visual art—each piece is a heartfelt tribute, a call to justice, and a story waiting to be witnessed.

From the choice of materials to the thoughtful order in which they are displayed, every element of this exhibit is intentional. Sixteen striking portraits form a united message: BLACK LIVES MATTER—a truth so vital, it bears repeating through image and word alike.

Steven Parlato’s work invites viewers to reflect on systemic racism, the lives lost to racial violence, and the urgent need for remembrance and action. A poet, novelist, and theater artist as well, Parlato brings a storyteller’s sensitivity to his visual work. With each collage, he honors the individual humanity of those represented, encouraging us to learn their names, feel their absence, and carry their stories forward.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to meet the artist and experience the gallery as he intended—with layers of meaning, emotion, and resistance woven through every frame.
