You are invited to bring your curiosity, sense of play and creative spirit to a one-day exploration/celebration of music, art and oil pastel!
Oil pastel is a beautiful, vibrant, versatile medium that can be used in many different ways, allowing a wealth of mark-making possibilities. During the workshop, we will explore techniques for painting and drawing with oil pastel, and discover new avenues to bring oil pastels into our work. After lunch, we will delve into how music can awaken inspiration in our art practices, bringing unique ideas, inspiration and voice to our creative flow. Music and art have always been sisters, inspiring and challenging each other. Using oil pastels and some of the techniques we explore in the morning, we will create work in collaboration with several different genres and styles of music. It promises to be a fun, joyful day of art and music! I hope you can join us! All levels are welcome and encouraged; adults only please.
Materials List
Oil pastels: - a small, inexpensive set of 6-10 colors
Brushes: two or three oil paint brushes. Cheap brushes are fine!
Paper towels
Paper: watercolor paper, mixed media paper, etc. No smaller than 8"x8" please.
Optional Item: an apron or smock, if you are messy like I am

Artist Regina Ottman was born with absolute pitch and chromesthesia (sound-to-color synesthesia), the ability to "hear colors." Her abstract paintings explore musical keys, tempi, rhythms, patterns and moods. As she investigates varieties of musical palettes and textures, she uses a variety of media and techniques to express how she sees/hears. As a classically trained musician, Ottman draws on her concert experiences to inform her current work. She is inspired by the patterns, colors and textures in music and in the natural world. She is curious about the way opposites inform and balance each other, and how these tensions find space on a two-dimensional surface.
Her work has appeared in shows throughout the northeastern United States, including Cerulean Arts Gallery (Philadelphia, PA), the Philadelphia Sketch Club, The Plastic Club (Philadelphia, PA), Loft Artists Association (Stamford, CT), the annual Ellerslie Open at Trenton Museum of Art (Trenton, NJ), Perkins Center for the Arts Annual Juried Exhibits (Moorestown, NJ) and Tri-State Artists Equity (PA/NJ/DE).Her paintings, drawings, prints and encaustics hang in private collections throughout the eastern United States, including such widely varied spots as the Cooper Cancer Center in Camden, NJ, the office of the president of Camden County College in Blackwood, NJ, a Center for Family Services safe house, and on a community wall mural at Twisted Tatt2 in Camden, NJ (featured on Spike TV's Tattoo Rescue.). She is represented by Cerulean Arts Gallery, Philadelphia, and lives in historic Laurel Springs, NJ.
