Earth Day Reflection
Earth Day celebrates the beauty of Creation
– a beauty that feeds our bodies and nourishes our soul. Earth Day is also a reminder that it is our responsibility to keep our Earth, our Common Home alive.
Here at Wisdom House, through our Discover Wisdom* program, we have been reflecting on coming to know and relish our common home. As we realize more and more that we are born and bred of creation, we see more clearly and feel more deeply the oneness of all.
“God saw everything that God had made, and indeed, it was very good.”
Our connection with creation is undeniable to all who are in touch with their senses – to see, to feel, to hear, to touch, to taste. We enter that sacred space of Creation and come to understand more about God, about one another, about life, about all living things.
When we think of Creation, we tend to think of ‘it’ as separate from ‘us’. We tend to live apart from it, sheltered from it, except perhaps for recreation or relaxation. But creation has so much more to teach us. We are made of the earth, distinct but one with all Creation. And Creation invites us to remember who we really are.
Creation is reaching out to us, calling out to us…
When we see a bird in flight,
An eagle, or a flock of geese
Or we hear the cooing of the morning dove
or the song the evening bird
When we sense the power of the mighty oak
Or watch the gentle swaying of the weeping willows…
When we leisurely roam the open road
And come upon a breathtaking view
Or we lie on the beach and feel the warmth of the breeze
and the rays of the sun 93 million miles away
And hear the sounds of the waves lapping up on the shore
Then we know…
We know deep in our souls
That we are One.
What is creation saying to you today?
What are you knowing in your soul?
As the Psalmist tells us: “The heavens are telling the glory of God!” May we listen and respond!
